A protagonist is a main character of a story, and the main playable character in the Dying Light games.
Description[]
Traditionally, a protagonist is the main figure of a piece of literature or drama and has the main part or role. Alternatively, the phrase denotes a primary advocate or proponent for a cause or movement. The main character can be a hero or a villain in a story—it is just the character with the lead role. In literature, the protagonist is characterized by his/her ability to change or evolve.
It should be pointed out that protagonists are not always the hero of the story. Some protagonists commit crimes and lack other heroic traits such as morality, though they are still considered the main character in the story. Those protagonists can therefore be considered antiheroes.
In total, the Dying Light series features 2 male protagonists (i.e. Kyle Crane, Aiden Caldwell).

The opposite of a protagonist is an antagonist, which is the main enemy of the protagonist and works against the protagonist and his actions. Again, this can be a villain or a hero, though usually a villain.

Not much is known about Crane's early life, other than that he is originally from Chicago, and allegedly ran track in high school. He served in the United States Army Special Forces, and toured all over the world with them. He later started working for private military corporations (PMCs) as a mercenary after his discharge. He was then hired and trained by the Global Relief Effort (GRE) to hunt down Kadir Suleiman in the city of Harran, following the outbreak. He also mentioned to have struggled romantically, having never met the right person. | |

Aiden's exact date and place of birth is unknown, but it's likely that he was born either in the year 2013 or 2016 either before or during the Harran Virus pandemic that eventually spread across the world. His father saved his life when he was young, telling him never to forget who he was or where he came from. He is an infected survivor in an infected world, where getting attached to others is deadly. He is a member of an outcast group known as the Pilgrims, a group that wander the world and are compared to Japanese Ronin and Old West desperadoes. He claims to have travelled over 2,000 kilometres (1,242 miles) from Crossdale River. Aiden's travels lead him to the City in search of his lost sister, Mia. The only person he remembers from his past, who he believes is the key to unlocking it and teaching him who he really is. | |
