"Brecken is so desperate, he's ready to deal with the devil himself: Rais. And since I'm supposed to determine whether or not Rais is the one who stole the GRE's secret document, this is the perfect opportunity."
Quest introduction

Pact with Rais is the fourth story quest available in Dying Light.[1]

Objectives[]

Objective icon
Buy Antizin from Rais
Objective icon
Introduce yourself to Rais
I met Rais, and Jade's right, he's a psychopath. He's also the GRE's rogue operative. Now I've got to cooperate with this piece of shit - not only because of my mission, but also because he's got a ton of Antizin stockpiled.

Objective icon
Get your tasks from Karim
Just met a guy named Karim - he's like Rais's majordomo, I guess. Or number one flunky, at the very least. Karim's sending me to fix some antennas for Rais. Nothing better than being an errand boy.

Objective icon
Contact the GRE
Objective icon
Find a telecommunication antenna
Objective icon
Turn on the antenna's main power
Objective icon
Search the antenna for a transmitter box
Objective icon
Turn on the transmitter
The first antenna was non-functional, so Karim's sending me to another one. If that one doesn't work, I don't know what I'm gonna do. I just hope Rais doesn't fuck me on this.

Objective icon
Check the second antenna
Objective icon
Turn on the transmitter
Objective icon
Get payment from Rais
The job's done. Now it's time to get back to Rais and get that Antizin.

Objective icon
Talk to Rais
I can't say I'm surprised that Rais went back on his word. But the GRE won't let me just walk away... plus, if there's any chance we can get that Antizin, I have to try. This time he wants me to gather protection money from the surrounding settlements. And after this, he better hand over the drugs.

Objective icon
Get directions to the settlements
Objective icon
Contact the GRE
Objective icon
Make the pickup at Jaffar's Wheelstation
Objective icon
"Persuade" Jaffar
I met Jaffar, the owner of the garage, and basically threatened his life if he didn't pay up. This makes me sick. It's not like I break legs for the mob.

Objective icon
Meet the courier at the tunnel entrance
Objective icon
Make the second pickup at the Fishermen's Village
Objective icon
Close the gate and clear the village of Infected
Objective icon
Search the huts for the leader
Objective icon
Get the payment from Gursel
Great, now I've terrified this Gursel AND his woman. Really making friends around here. Still, I made the pickup and now I'm on my way to what used to be a ferry station. One last job and then I hope I'm done with Rais.

Objective icon
Make the third pickup at the Ferry Harbor
Objective icon
Talk to Morgan
More threats. This time it was a guy named Morgan, and I ended up promising to burn the place down around him if he didn't cooperate. I feel... slimy.

Objective icon
Take the package from Morgan
Objective icon
Return the payments to the Garrison
Some of Rais's men disappeared in the Slabs, and if you ask me, whatever happened to them was too good. But I'm nearby, so Karim wants me to go see if I can find them, and since I need the Antizin, I'm in no position to argue.

Objective icon
Find the missing patrol
Objective icon
Look for an envelope with blueprints in it
Objective icon
Get the payment from Rais
Rais gave me enough Antizin to keep the Tower alive for a few more days - but then he demanded that I kidnap Jade and bring her to him! I told him where he could shove that idea. No clue what to do now.

Objective icon
Supply survivors in the Tower with Antizin
Jade just told me there's been an outbreak on the 18th floor. I've got to get what little Antizin I have back to the Tower pronto.

Objective icon
Find a private spot to contact the GRE
Objective icon
Supply survivors in the Tower with Antizin
Objective icon
Supply survivors in the Tower with Antizin
Jade just told me there's been an outbreak on the 18th floor. I've got to get what little Antizin I have back to the Tower pronto.

Objective icon
Check on Brecken
I spoke with Brecken. He's depressed, and wants to go talk to Rais himself. Except that'll only get him killed. Maybe I can help out...

Objective icon
Look for a private spot on the roof to contact the GRE
Objective icon
Look for a safe place to contact the GRE

Walkthrough[]

After having spoken to Brecken and agreed to go to Rais, make your way over to his headquarters. The place is well fortified, with spike traps and czech gates with barbed wire located near the entrance. The guards are suspicious at first, and will speak to Crane:

Crane: "Don't shoot!"
Guard: "Hands up! What do you want, motherfucker?"
Crane: "I'm here to see Rais. Brecken sent me."
Guard: "Brecken? That asshole in the Tower? All right, what does HE want?"
Crane: "I've come to make a deal."
Guard: "What kinda deal?"
Crane: "The kind I make with Rais. Not with his flunkies."
Guard: "... All right. Let him through. This oughta be entertaining."

Having successfully persuaded the guards, enter Rais's stronghold. The first impression of the place is a bleak one, as Rais cuts off the hand of one of his men on a table. Tahir stands close by, raising his hand to command Crane to stop. After the hand is cut off, Rais has a short conversation with Crane, after which Tahir recommends speaking to Karim and doing some jobs for him and that in return Rais might consider giving some Antizin. Not having much choice in the matter, Crane goes along with it. Karim sends Crane on a task to climb up some sattelite towers to get communications back online. Before taking on the task, Crane contacts the GRE to give them an update.

Reaching the first antenna shows that the power is off and that the surrounding area is full of infected, including a goon. Either kill or distract the nearby infected so that the steel shutter of the building can be opened. Upon activation of the shutter, however, a toad jumps down from the antenna which will have to be beaten to progress. Be careful when opening the shutter, as two biters are located inside. Clear the room and turn the power back online before climbing the antenna itself. Unfortunately, the switch of the antenna itself is missing, meaning it cannot be used. Karim recommends going to another antenna not too far from the first one and try using that one instead.

Though Karim said that the second antenna was close by, it is still quite a walk to get there. Upon arrival, you will find an electrified fence - the place is inhabited by Alexei and his son, Kristov. In order to enter the area, go to the back of the fence and climb the hill. A jutting rock sticks out far enough to enable you to jump right onto the antenna tower. Speak to Alexei and then climb the tower.

"I sure hope this fucking climb was worth it. ——— And this thing's still intact. Let's see if it was worth the hassle...
Kyle Crane, while climbing and while flipping the switches"

Having reached the top, open the switch box. This time, in contrast to the previous antenna, it does have the material needed. Switch it on and report back to Karim. On the way back, both Rahim and Spike contact Crane. Rahim displays his gratitude for the communications being restored, and Spike has a contact in Old Town, Troy, who also thanks Crane for giving them hope by restoring communications.

Upon returning to Rais's headquarters, it turns out that Rais is not yet satisfied with Crane's work and is unwilling to part with Antizin for what he has done. Crane has to prove himself more to Rais, go to Karim and get your orders to collect protection money from nearby settlements. Jaffar's Wheelstation being the first. Before going there, contact the GRE to give them a status report.

Jaffar is uncooperative at first, but after Crane threatens to break his legs and drag him to Rais, he obliges and gives the protection money. With the first settlement having paid, Karim sends Crane off to the next one: the Fisherman's Village. On the way to meet its courier in a tunnel, Brecken contacts Crane to inform him that he's getting worried, as time is running short with the Tower almost running out of Antizin. Not long after the conversation, Crane enters the tunnel to find the messenger of the Fisherman's Village, only to find a bomber instead.

"I gotta get that gate closed before more of those fuckers get inside...
Kyle Crane upon entering the village"

Having failed to find the courier, Karim sends Crane to the village directly to speak to the man in charge there, Gursel. When he arrives, however, he finds the place overrun by infected. After clearing the village, the average fishermen are still terrified and refuse to open their doors, though there are some who point to Gursel's home. Only Gursel is willing to open his door and actually talk to Crane. After a bit of persuasion, Gursel hand Crane the money and Crane can go on to the next location, Ferry Harbor, and speak to Morgan. Morgan is annoyed with Rais being back to extort money from him, but complies anyway. Having obtained protection money from all three sites, return to Rais's headquarters. On the way back, Brecken makes it all the more clear that the Tower needs the Antizin, as somebody on the 18th floor has turned.

On the way back, Karim hits up Crane and informs him that one of Rais's patrols has gone off the grid, and he tasks him with finding out what happened to them before returning to the headquarters. Crane reluctantly agrees to investigate. At the site, a survivor with a military rifle will open fire on crane. Three dead thugs of Rais lie dead nearby, one of them has the envelope. Deal with the survivor and find the envelope. Upon obtaining it, return to Rais' headquarters and talk to Karim. Karim will take the envelope and direct you to Rais.

Rais has backtracked on his earlier promises of offering two crates of Antizin by instead reducing it to a mere five vials. In order to get more, Rais demands that Jade is given to him so she can fight in his arena for the amusement of his gang. Return with the vials of Antizin to the Tower, where it is so desperately needed, but contact the GRE first to give them a status update. On the way back, Crane tries to reach Brecken, but is met with radio silence. He then tries Jade, who does respond but does not like the negative news about the few vials of Antizin. Make your way to the Tower and speak to Brecken in person.

Brecken is so disappointed in his role as a leader that he wants to talk to Rais in person. Crane argues against it, stating that the people of the Tower need him now. Brecken reluctantly agrees to wait, but not for long. Crane decides to go up to the roof to report to the GRE, but upon arriving there he sees Rahim, who he talks with about a nearby Volatile nest in one of the buildings in town. Contact the GRE on top of the building in order to complete the quest.

Notes[]

  • This is the mission where the Bombers and Toads are first introduced. After encountering the first Toad during the "Turn on the antenna's main power" objective and the first Bomber during the "Meet the Courier at the tunnel entrance" objective, they will begin to appear throughout Harran.
  • When you need to find the blueprint in the gas station, there is a man on the roof, who will shoot you. If you approach the building before doing anything else, he will not appear, and you can carry out the mission without enemies shooting at you.
    • Although not recommended, you can jump down from the nearby mountain and kill him to get the gun.

Trivia[]

  • When Crane enter Rais's headquarters, Tahir is suspicious of him since Tahir and his two accompanied bandits find him after landing in the city. This is speculation, but it's possible that Rais may not have given the two crates of Antizin as promised due to Tahir telling Rais about Crane's arrival in the city.
  • During development, Rais was initally using a military machete to cut off Osman's right hand. This was then changed to a hook blade in the final game.
