Dying Light Wiki

Welcome to the Dying Light Wiki Manual of Style! This is a guide that should hopefully guide new editors (and perhaps existing ones) in the right direction to make the wiki easy to use, nice to look at and uniformly presented. By following this guide, new users to the wiki will see a cleanly laid out and presented wiki site that is easy to use and easy to look at to find the information they are looking for. As the wiki grows and develops, this guide will likely be changed and added to as the need arises. In the following headers there will be information for a broad range of wiki requirements that users can hopefully look at when confused about something.

Spelling and In-game Text[]

Every article should have correct spelling to make it fluid and easy to read. When finishing your edit, make sure to read over what you have written to make sure it's easy to follow and conveys what you're trying to get across. Why use 3 paragraphs to explain something that can be explained in 1? When writing a quote from in-game, type it out EXACTLY as it's written, even if there is a spelling mistake the developers missed out. If needed, write a small note under or next to the quote to highlight this fact. Alternatively, leave a [sic] next to it to identify it as a mistake by the developers, not your own.

Language[]

This wiki uses American English so only American English should be used when describing and writing an article. For example, gas instead of petrol, pants instead of trousers, etc. This also means only English should be used when creating or writing articles unless quoting something from the series that uses a different language. For example, a character in a game could be from France and has a word in their dialogue that is French, so this would be acceptable to put into the article as it's a direct quote. However anything other than that should be written in English.

Article and Category Titles[]

Article titles can be confusing to both new and existing editors alike, as each wiki has their own decisions on how they format their titles. In general, sentence case should be used. In short, this means that nothing past the first word should be capitalised unless a proper noun or place name. To gain a better understanding of this, there is this help on Wikipedia about it. Alternatively, if you are still unsure, stick to editing already created pages to avoid this issue.

Linking Articles[]

Every wiki needs links to other pages when then need arises, otherwise the wiki would be complicated to get around. I'm sure anyone who has used wikipedia or Fandom wikis before will know that links to other pages are highlighted in a colour. In the Dying Light Wiki's case, these links are orange. However, there is a basic form on what to do when linking pages. In general, only link a word once to its specific article. Do not link every single word to the same article, only the first time it appears. For example, if the DLC Hellraid is mentioned multiple times in a paragraph, do not link every single word, only the first one. This is to prevent the user looking at the article from being bombarded by many links that could overwhelm them. An exception to this is the infobox for characters or factions. Both the infobox and the article itself are allowed to use one link to the related article.

Images[]

Only use images on articles that are related to them. For example, do not use the image of a Goon on a page about Volatiles. Screenshots taken should be in a clear resolution while images taken of a TV screen or monitor in leu of a screenshot should be clear as well. Replace poor quality images with higher quality ones when available. Images without the HUD and an aiming dot in the screen are typically preferable to those which do have the HUD and dot.

Neutral Point of View[]

Edits should be made with a Neutral Point of View (NPOV) in mind. Flowerly language meant to make something sound good or bad should be avoided and replaced with more neutral wording so the reader can make up their own mind in regards to the topic.

Standardization[]

Each type of article should be laid out in a certain way so they all appear neat and uniform. This is to make the wiki look professional and ensure that required information can be found easily on pages regardless of what type they are. If each article follows a naming standard and editing template, the wiki will be presentable and all pages are easy for users to use and edit without changing the style.

Standard Layout of Character Articles[]
